Michael Donovan (b. 1987) is a multi-disciplined artist born, and currently residing in, Philadelphia, PA . Introduced to art through his grandmother’s coloring books and elementary art classes in school. Donovan would spend his youth drawing his favorite cartoon characters, creating comics,and reading. In 1997 Donovan would move to Mullica Township, New Jersey. This move would introducehim to the subcultures that would unknowingly direct the trajectory of his artistic career, Hip-Hop and Skateboarding.

Upon his return to Philly Donovan became emergerged in the burgeoning skateboard and music scene. A regular at Cecil (Columbia Plaza) and performing at Open Mics, most notably The Fire. In 2013 Michael Donovan released a mixtape titled Wonderfull: Best of The Worst under the name Mic Don and released the single Microphone Don.

While attending the Community College of Philadelphia’s Art & Design Program majoring in drawing and graphic design. His professor would regularly assign projects requiring students to take photos. After saving $150 he purchased his first camera; what was thought to be a means to an end slowly became an overwhelming curiosity. Equipped with his new Fuji Fine Pix and a resurgence of skateboarding at Love Park (JFK Plaza). Donovan would spend the next ten years documenting Philly’s streets, skateboarding, residents, and architecture. Developing a style he describes as “candid street skateboard photography”.

In 2022 Donovan would be awarded Best Photo at the Philadelphia Sketch Club Art of the Flower Show for the photo Beautiful Mourning followed by the group exhibition Televised Revolution with BLK ART HOUSE in Washington, DC; ending the year with the exhibition Community at Wanderlust Gallery part of the 20/20 Photo Festival. He returned to the Philadelphia Sketch Club in the 2023 Photography Exhibition placing third for the photo KICKED!

In 2024 Michael Donovan introduced his solo exhibition YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE at Together Skateshop and was published in Skate Jawn Magazine February 2024 issue.
